British Academy publishes "Languages: The State of the Nation"
14/02/2013: The British Academy's latest statement is published in light of the recent figures from UCAS demonstrating a further fall in applications to study languages in UK HEIs
The British Academy has launched the first Languages: State of the Nation report, establishing baseline data on foreign language demand and supply in the UK and presenting key priorities for action. The report comprehensively synthesises existing research and appraises policy contexts for foreign language learning in England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales. It also incorporates two specially comissioned pieces of research including: a survey of UK employers conducted in conjunction with Rosetta Stone; and, up-to-date language-focussed Labour Market Intelligence.
The British Academy has published a number of statements and reports in recent years on HE languages issues and further information can be found on their website
